Calories in Atta Ladoo
One atta ladoo has about 142 kcal, with 3.4 g of protein, 16.1 g of carbohydrate and 7 g of fat. The Indian Nutrient Databank recipe makes 4 ladoos from atta, peanuts, sesame, jaggery and ghee; the figure is for one of them, holding 15 g of atta, 6 g of jaggery and 4 g of ghee. Bigger ladoos have more.

Of this energy, about 46% comes from carbohydrate, 45% from fat and 10% from protein.
1 atta ladoo is about 7% of the daily energy requirement of a sedentary adult man and 9% of a sedentary adult woman's (ICMR-NIN, 2020).
These figures are from the Indian Nutrient Databank (INDB), which calculates each dish from a standard recipe using Indian food composition data. They describe that recipe and that serving: a larger portion, or more oil, ghee or sugar, gives more. Source: Vijayakumar A, Dubasi HB, Awasthi A, Jaacks LM. What this figure covers
The source recipe roasts 60 g of atta in 15 g of ghee, adds 20 g of peanuts, 10 g of sesame seeds and 25 g of jaggery, and divides the mixture into 4 ladoos. The source does not fix a weight for one ladoo, so the figure here is simply one share of that batch: 15 g of atta, 5 g of peanuts, 2.5 g of til, 6 g of jaggery and 4 g of ghee. That is a small ladoo. Winter atta ladoos and pinnis made at home, heavy with ghee, gond and dry fruit, are usually larger and richer. This one is the 3rd lightest of the 20 sweets in the set.
Carbohydrate supplies 46% of the energy, fat 45% and protein 10%. Unlike most ladoos, this one gets much of its carbohydrate from whole wheat flour, not from sugar: sugars are only 5.8 g, the lowest among the ladoos here. The 7 g of fat is shared between ghee, peanuts and sesame, and only 4 g of ghee goes into each ladoo. Whole wheat, peanuts and til together give 2.6 g of fibre and 3.4 g of protein. It is closer to a sweetened flour-and-nut snack than to mithai.
What goes into one serving
The recipe INDB analysed makes 4 ladoos. These are its main ingredients; spices, salt and water are left out.
| Ingredient | In the recipe | In 1 atta ladoo |
|---|---|---|
| Atta (whole wheat flour) | 60 g | 15 g |
| Sesame seeds (til) | 10 g | 2.5 g |
| Peanuts (groundnut) | 20 g | 5 g |
| Jaggery | 25 g | 6 g |
| Ghee | 15 g | 4 g |
What changes the number
- 01
Ghee in the roasting
This recipe uses 15 g of ghee for 60 g of atta, far less than a traditional pinni. Atta absorbs ghee readily, and one extra teaspoon in a single ladoo brings it to about 187 kcal.
- 02
Jaggery, sugar or boora
There is 6 g of jaggery in each ladoo. Family recipes that use equal measures of flour and powdered sugar are much sweeter, and the sugars rise with every spoonful.
- 03
Nuts, seeds and gond
Peanuts and sesame are already counted. Almonds, cashews, melon seeds or edible gum fried in ghee are common in winter ladoos and add fat beyond the 142 kcal.
- 04
How the batch is divided
The figure assumes the mixture makes 4 ladoos. Shape it into fewer and each is heavier; a ladoo the size of a tennis ball is a much larger serving than the one counted.

In a meal and in a day
An atta ladoo of this size is about 7% of a sedentary man's daily energy requirement and 9% of a woman's. Two are 284 kcal with 6.8 g of protein, and three are 426 kcal. With a glass of milk in the morning it is a familiar winter start to the day in many homes, and a practical one, since the milk supplies the protein the ladoo is short of. For an adult watching portions, one ladoo with tea is a snack; half of one is about 71 kcal.
Ways to keep it lighter
- Roast the atta on a low flame until it smells nutty, which lets a small amount of ghee go further.
- Keep the jaggery where the recipe has it and resist adding powdered sugar.
- Use roasted peanuts and til for richness instead of ghee-fried dry fruit.
- Shape small ladoos and count them as you serve, not as you eat.
Before you rely on the number
One ladoo has 5.8 g of sugars and 7 g of fat, low for a sweet, but only at this size and with this little ghee. A home-made pinni is not the same thing. The ladoo contains wheat, peanuts and sesame, three common allergens, which matters when sweets are shared at school or sent to other homes. People with diabetes should confirm with their doctor or dietitian how a flour-and-jaggery ladoo fits their meal plan.
Food composition is general information, not a diet plan. Anyone managing a medical condition should plan their diet with a doctor or a registered dietitian.
Atta Ladoo: common questions
How many calories are in 2 atta ladoos?
Two ladoos of the size in this recipe come to about 284 kcal, with 6.8 g of protein, 32.2 g of carbohydrate and 14 g of fat. Home-made ladoos with more ghee and dry fruit will be well above that.
Is atta ladoo healthier than besan ladoo?
In this set the atta ladoo has fewer calories, 142 kcal against 168 kcal, and slightly more protein, 3.4 g against 3.1 g. That reflects this recipe's small amount of ghee and jaggery more than any virtue of the flour. Made with equal ghee and sugar, the two would be much alike.
How much protein is in an atta ladoo?
About 3.4 g, from the atta, peanuts and sesame. Protein is 10% of the energy. A glass of milk alongside adds far more protein than a second ladoo would.
Is atta ladoo good for weight loss?
At 142 kcal it is among the lighter sweets here and it has some fibre and protein, so one ladoo is a fair snack. Ladoos made the traditional way with plenty of ghee are a different matter. As with any food, the number eaten and the rest of the day's meals decide the outcome.
