Why nutrition knowledge has never mattered more in India
India carries both burdens at once: undernutrition and lifestyle disease. The people who understand food, evidence and behaviour are the ones who will change these numbers.
56.4%
of India's total disease burden is estimated to be linked to unhealthy diets.

Four beliefs we hear every week from clients, students and even professionals, and what the evidence actually says.
Myth · Sports and fitness nutrition
“More protein is always better, and you need protein powder to build muscle.”

What the evidence says
The International Society of Sports Nutrition finds 1.4 to 2.0 g of protein per kg of body weight per day is sufficient for most exercising people, ideally spread across the day in doses of about 20 to 40 g every 3 to 4 hours. Meanwhile, India's 2024 Dietary Guidelines advise meeting protein needs through food and caution against prolonged intake of large amounts of protein powder.

Myth · Indian diets and lifestyle disease
“Rice and roti cause diabetes. Cut carbs out completely.”

What the evidence says
India's 2024 Dietary Guidelines focus on proportion, not elimination. Cereals and millets should give no more than 45% of daily calories, pulses, beans and meat up to 15%, and the rest should come from nuts, vegetables, fruits and milk. Added sugar should stay below 5% of energy and total fat at or below 30%.

Myth · Maternal and child nutrition
“A pregnant woman should eat for two.”

“A pregnant woman should eat for two.”

What the evidence says
Energy needs rise only modestly, mainly in the later stages of pregnancy. What changes most is the need for specific nutrients such as iron and folate. That matters in a country where 57% of women of reproductive age are anaemic. The "first 1,000 days", from conception to a child's second birthday, shape lifelong health.
Go deeper: What to prioritise, trimester by trimester and through the first two years. Panel at 12:20.
Myth · AI and digital practice
“AI can write diet plans now, so nutritionists will become unnecessary.”

What the evidence says
AI tools can draft meal plans, summarise food logs and create client handouts in minutes. But they can be confidently wrong on regional foods, portion sizes and medical conditions, and they carry no professional accountability. The professionals who learn to direct and check AI will serve more clients, better.
Go deeper: Live demonstrations of what to use, what to avoid and how to stay compliant. Panel at 14:55.
These are four questions. The conference answers dozens more, with the experts who study them.
