The NNWA journal

You have looked at INFS and something makes you want to see what else exists: the fee, the self-study, the lack of a university's name. The useful question is which part of INFS you want to keep.

Alternatives to INFS for a Nutrition Course in India

The alternatives to INFS depend on what drew you to it. If you liked self-paced study, look at GIHS, IGNOU, ISSA and NASM. If you liked the exercise and sports content, look at K11 and NASM's sports coach course. If the fee matters most, IGNOU lists Rs 4,000 and GIHS Rs 22,999, against Rs 61,999 for the INFS diploma. If you want a university's name, look at IGNOU or NNWA's flagship programmes. If you want live classes, look at AAFT Online, NFNA, NHHA and Orane. There is no overall winner.

NNWA publishes the name and qualifications of everyone who writes and checks its material. You can see the full teaching team on the faculty page.

Sweeping brass motion arcs rising across a deep forest green field, with the NNWA wordmark in the corner.

Every figure here was read on the provider's own page on 1 November 2026, and each one is written as what that page states. NNWA publishes this page and sells a competing course, so read its entry with that in mind. For one direct comparison, see NNWA and INFS side by side or INFS against NFNA. If your interest is mainly gym coaching rather than food, personal trainer certification routes may be the better starting point.

Which courses are the main alternatives to INFS?

Twelve other providers publish a course a reader of INFS might weigh, and the table lists one or more from each, in alphabetical order and with no ranking. INFS has its own row so that you can read across. The fees are not like for like: some include tax, two are in US dollars, and some carry a struck-through figure beside them. The dated comparison of ten providers gives more detail on several of these names, so this page keeps to what separates them for someone starting from INFS.

Alternatives to the INFS diploma, alphabetical and unranked, checked November 2026. Fees are each provider's own figure and change often.

When is INFS itself the right choice?

INFS is the right choice when you study well alone, want nutrition and exercise under one credential, and plan to coach clients on both. Its diploma pages set out a self-paced course with live and recorded lectures, books delivered, proctored exams, a viva and a project with real clients, and the fee is printed with taxes included. That is a clear offer, and few alternatives here combine those parts. If you are drawn to coaching through FITTR, INFS's pages also describe that route, which no other page read here describes.

INFS also lets you start smaller. Its own pages list a Certified Nutritionist course at Rs 19,999 for 15 to 18 weeks, a Sports Nutrition course at Rs 9,999 for 8 weeks, a Professional Diploma at Rs 31,999 and a Hindi diploma at Rs 49,999. So a reader put off by the flagship's price should read those first, because the alternative to INFS's diploma may be another INFS course. Keep in mind that INFS's page calls the fee non-refundable and non-transferable, and that the Professional Diploma has its own condition on FITTR onboarding.

If you liked studying at your own pace

Four alternatives keep self-pacing and change something else. IGNOU's diploma gives the longest window at the lowest fee, with a public university's name, and asks for 10+2. GIHS runs online and distance study on the same pattern at three fee levels, but it writes for graduates and health workers, and its recognition page says it should not be viewed as a replacement for a university qualification. ISSA and NASM are foreign bodies with online courses and open-book exams: ISSA gives 6 months to complete, and NASM gives a year to take the exam.

Self-pacing cuts both ways, whichever provider sells it. All four ask you to set your own deadlines, and there is less to bring you back if you drift. NASM's and ISSA's pages price in US dollars, so work out the rupee figure at your bank's card rate before you compare. Foreign and Indian certifications compared deals with whether Indian food examples and an overseas name suit your clients. ISSA's own page notes that its certificate does not make the holder a registered dietitian.

Which alternatives keep the sports and exercise content?

K11 and NASM are the closest, and neither is quite the same as a single diploma covering both subjects. K11's Human Performance Nutrition course covers nutrition for training and performance, with cooking demonstrations and a practical nutrition plan in its exam, over about six months in a classroom or online. Its page asks for 10+2 and no earlier nutrition study. NASM sells a Certified Sports Nutrition Coach course, advertised at USD 199 down and 17 payments of USD 26, whose page says its exam is not NCCA-accredited and that many learners finish in 4 to 6 weeks.

If you want training and food together, you may end up buying two courses from anyone but INFS. K11 and NFNA both sell personal training separately from nutrition. At NNWA, the short Sports Nutrition course carries NNWA's own certificate, and training sits in a separate programme, the Advanced Diploma in Personal Training with Sports Nutrition. Sports nutrition certifications compared goes further into the fitness-body options.

If the fee was the attraction, or the obstacle

If Rs 61,999 is too much, the lowest fee here is IGNOU's Rs 4,000, and its prospectus adds admission and exam fees that bring the total to about Rs 5,800 if you pass everything first time. GIHS lists Rs 22,999 for 3 months and Rs 32,999 for its one-year Post Graduate Diploma, and Medvarsity lists Rs 17,745, but its page limits entry to healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses and dietitians. Orane lists Rs 45,000 for its six-month live certificate. INFS's own shorter courses, listed above, belong in this comparison too.

Some alternatives cost more than INFS, and that does not make them better or worse. K11 lists Rs 67,000, NFNA Rs 70,000, IGMPI Rs 79,830 for online live classes, NHHA Rs 97,200 and AAFT Online Rs 1,40,000. A struck-through figure beside a fee, which NFNA and NHHA both show, tells you about an offer and not about what the course contains. Divide each total by the hours of teaching you will receive, as the cost-per-hour method describes, and get the final figure in writing.

Which alternatives name an outside awarding body?

IGNOU and NNWA's flagship programmes are the clearest cases of a university's name on the award, and K11 and Orane point to the national skills framework in different ways. IGNOU awards its own diploma. NNWA's Certification and Diploma are awarded with Medhavi Skills University, Sikkim. K11's page names an NSQF Level-6 certificate under NSDC and SPEFL SC, and Orane's says its certificate is NSQF aligned without naming a level. AAFT Online's page names NSDC and CII, and NFNA's names an NSDC-graded certificate. The INFS diploma page names no outside awarding body, so ask INFS what its Accreditations logos cover.

IGMPI's prospectus says it is an autonomous body recognised by a central ministry, and that the Centre for Nutrition and Dietetics Studies awards the diploma. NHHA is direct about its position: its certificate is a certificate of completion, and its footer says its programmes are not university-affiliated and confer no medical, dietetics or clinical licence. Any of these claims can be tested in one way, which is to ask which body issues which paper and then find the provider on that body's own website. How to judge a certification provider sets out the questions to ask.

If you would rather have live classes, or Hindi

If self-study is what put you off, AAFT Online, IGMPI, K11, NFNA, NHHA, NNWA and Orane all advertise live or classroom teaching, at very different fees. Ask each for the class days, the recording period and how many hours are live, since those are what a working learner lives with. NFNA's page states one year of access to recordings. For Hindi, NHHA and NNWA teach in English and Hindi, IGNOU's diploma has a Hindi medium for distance study, and INFS sells a separate Hindi diploma. Nutrition courses in Hindi covers that choice more fully.

Do any of these courses lead to the Registered Dietitian credential?

No, and that includes INFS and NNWA. Registered Dietitian is a credential of the Indian Dietetic Association, reached through degree and postgraduate study, a six-month hospital internship and its examination. None of these courses replaces that route, whatever a syllabus lists on diabetes, thyroid or PCOS. Diets that treat disease are planned by doctors and qualified dietitians, while the holder of a certificate or skill diploma coaches healthy people and refers medical cases on. Orane and NHHA both say as much on their own pages, and the same limit applies to every other name here.

NNWA on the same questions

NNWA is a private skill academy whose online classes run live in English and Hindi, which suits a reader who wants a timetable more than one who wants to set their own pace. Its Diploma in Nutrition, Dietetics and Public Health takes entrants with Class 12 in any stream and is a 600-hour qualification at NCrF and NSQF Level 4, awarded with Medhavi Skills University, Sikkim, as is the three-month Certification in Nutrition. That university is recognised under section 2(f) of the UGC Act and is an NCVET-approved awarding body.

The Sports Nutrition course and the other short courses carry NNWA's own certificate. These are skill qualifications rather than degrees, and they are not the route to the Registered Dietitian credential. If you need to study at hours of your own choosing, a self-paced course on this list will fit better. Fees are printed on the course pages and are not given here.

The reader each alternative suits

IGNOU suits a reader on a tight budget who studies alone and values a public university's name. GIHS suits a graduate or health worker who wants self-paced study at a mid-level fee. ISSA and NASM suit a trainer whose gym or clients already know those names. K11 suits someone who wants performance nutrition, ideally in a classroom. Medvarsity suits a doctor, nurse or dietitian adding a short credential. AAFT Online, IGMPI, NFNA, NHHA and Orane suit a reader who wants a longer course with live teaching. NNWA suits a reader who wants live classes in English or Hindi and a named university award.

Readers who should look elsewhere than all of these

Look elsewhere if you want hospital dietetics, a dietitian's post or to treat illness, because a university degree is where that starts, as the route to becoming a dietitian explains. Look elsewhere too if you only want to test your interest, since a free or very low-fee course will answer that first: cheapest certified nutrition courses names them. And if your interest is training rather than food, compare fitness certifications before any of these nutrition courses.

A method for choosing your INFS alternative

From what you liked to a written answer

  1. Name what you want to keep

Pick one or two: self-pacing, exercise content, the fee, an Indian award, or the FITTR route. Cross out providers that lose them.

  2. Name what you want to change

Write down the one thing that sent you looking. If nothing on your shortlist changes it, go back to INFS.

  3. Shortlist two, plus INFS

Keep INFS on the list as your reference, so you are comparing against something real.

  4. Ask the same four questions

Who issues the certificate, how many hours are live or marked, what is the total including tax and exams, and what comes back if you leave.

  5. Read the refund terms

INFS and NHHA both treat fees as generally non-refundable, and NFNA states the same, so settle the choice before you pay.

Keep the replies in one place and judge them side by side, because a course that cannot answer in writing has told you something useful as well. Two pages can help at this stage: the refund policy checklist shows what to look for in the terms, and the four-step certificate check shows how to confirm an awarding body yourself. A week spent on this costs far less than a fee you cannot recover.

Your next step

If you study well alone and want exercise too, stay with INFS and read its assessment rules, or price a shorter INFS course first. If the fee is the barrier and you can study alone, read IGNOU's programme page and its prospectus. If you want performance nutrition taught face to face, ask K11 for its next batch and check the Level-6 claim with the bodies it names. If you want a timetable and a university award, read NNWA's Diploma page beside two of the live providers above.

Do not buy anything yet if you cannot name the work you will do with the certificate, or if your goal is a hospital post. For the first, a low-fee or free course will show whether the subject holds you. For the second, start comparing universities in place of these providers. Waiting a month to decide costs you nothing, and most of the fees on this page are not returned once you have joined.
