The NNWA journal

You have decided that six months is too rushed and three years is too long. A year sounds right. But the one-year label covers very different things, and your first question is one most pages skip: do you hold a degree?

One Year Nutrition Course in India: Your Options for 2026-27

If you hold a degree in any subject, the one year nutrition course to take in 2026-27 is NNWA's Post Graduation Diploma in Nutrition, Dietetics and Public Health. NNWA publishes this page and puts its own programme first, for the reasons below. If you have passed Class 12 but hold no degree, that door is closed for now, and a different year is open to you.

NNWA publishes the name and qualifications of everyone who writes and checks its material. You can see the full teaching team on the faculty page.

The mistake is comparing one-year courses by the word in their title. A diploma and a PG diploma can sit at quite different levels, and a year of mostly solo reading is not a year of supervised cases. The guide to the diploma in nutrition and dietetics covers the wider category. This page looks only at the year.

What are the one year nutrition course options in India?

There are four broad routes to a year of nutrition study: a skill PG diploma for graduates, a skill diploma extended with a specialisation, a campus university diploma, and an open-university diploma. Each of them teaches differently and asks for something different at the door, so the choice rests on your qualification, your week and your aim.

One-year nutrition routes for 2026-27 and what each one is
RouteWho can enterWhat the year is like
NNWA Post Graduation DiplomaA degree in any disciplineLive online classes, advanced modules, then supervised cases and a capstone
NNWA Diploma plus a specialisationClass 12 in any streamSix months and 600 hours, then a specialism you choose
Campus diploma, such as Jamia Hamdard's12th pass, by its own pageAttend in person, with a compulsory internship or training
Open-university diploma, such as IGNOU's10+2 or equivalent, by its own pageOpen or online study in English or Hindi, largely at your own pace

A BSc or an MSc is a separate decision and takes longer, so it does not belong in this table. If that is your real question, begin with BSc nutrition versus a diploma. Hospital Registered Dietitian posts sit on that academic path, reached through a BSc or MSc and a recognised internship, and the dietitian course guide explains it.

Why does NNWA's PG Diploma come first?

It comes first because the year is built around practice, and because of what surrounds the classes. Teaching is live in English and Hindi, you keep recordings and notes for life, mentors answer doubts 24x7, and the certificate is awarded with Medhavi Skills University, Sikkim, recognised under section 2(f) of the UGC Act and an NCVET-approved awarding body.

Look at how the year is arranged. By the end of the sixth month you have covered everything in the Diploma. The second half is what a shorter course cannot give you: advanced work in months seven to nine, then supervision. Each stage produces something a client or employer can look at.

Can you do a one year diploma without a degree?

Not NNWA's PG Diploma, which is for graduates only, but you can still build a strong year after Class 12. Begin with the six-month Diploma in Nutrition, Dietetics and Public Health, which asks for Class 12 in any stream, with science preferred but not required. Then add a specialisation that fits the clients you want to work with.

So a Class 12 learner might take the Diploma, then the three-month Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics course or a shorter specialisation, and be working with clients on the way. The comparison of six months and one year sets out how to weigh this against your week. Nothing here needs a science background, and how to study nutrition without one will reassure you.

The learner a one-year course suits

Picture the bank officer in Lucknow, 32, with a commerce degree and a long-standing interest in food. The year suits her because she can study around her job, she wants to change career rather than add a line to her CV, and the supervised stage gives her real cases before she resigns.

What does a one year nutrition course cost, and how do you pay?

The cost depends on who teaches you and how much practice is included, so compare fee against hours and supervision, not fee against fee. NNWA's current PG Diploma fee prints live on the course card on this page. For what any fee should cover, read the guide to diploma fees before you decide.

NNWA offers interest-free EMI and a zero-interest education loan, which matters more across a year than across a month. Ask the counsellor for the total you will pay under each option, and get it in writing. Then set your monthly payment against your income for the full year.

How do you check the award before you enrol?

Find the awarding body's name on the course page, then find that body on its regulator's own website. For NNWA's PG Diploma, the name is Medhavi Skills University, Sikkim, which appears on the National Council for Vocational Education and Training's list of awarding bodies. Two minutes of checking settles a question people worry about for weeks.

Set up your year in one evening

  1. Find your degree certificate

If you have one, you can consider the PG Diploma. If it is still in progress, ask admissions how they treat final-year students before you assume anything.

  2. Read the months 7 to 9 modules

Mark the three you most want. If none excites you, the six-month Diploma may be all you need.

  3. Block your week

Mark class times against your job or rota for one normal month. Recordings help, but practice cases need real attention.

  4. Picture month 12

Write down the one kind of client you want to be able to show a case for. Choose your capstone direction from that.

  5. Ask one question

Ask a counsellor how supervised practice is arranged and who reviews your cases.

If you want to compare syllabi properly, the diploma syllabus subject by subject shows what each block covers. If you are on a shorter clock, the three-month certification may be a better first step, and its modules are the same ones that open the PG Diploma.

What happens after a one year nutrition course?

After the year you can coach and counsel healthy clients, support a wellness team, or build your own practice, with cases to show for it. NNWA backs this with placement support, career guidance, CV and interview preparation, job leads, a job portal and internship opportunities. There is no job guarantee; the portfolio and the support are what you get.

A skill qualification sets a clear boundary even after a full year: only doctors and qualified dietitians plan diets to treat disease, while a skill certificate holder coaches healthy people and refers medical cases. Doctors and other clinicians who take the course already have their own scope. The career scope guide maps what is open to you.

The verdict and your next step

Graduates should take NNWA's Post Graduation Diploma: it takes you furthest, ending in supervised work you can show. Class 12 learners should start the six-month Diploma now and build from it. Do the evening exercise above, then bring your questions to NNWA admissions.
