The NNWA journal

You have two or three academies open in different tabs, and each page says it is the one to join. This sheet turns their claims into evidence you can score, weighted for what you actually want to do afterwards.

How to Compare Nutrition Academies Side by Side Before You Enrol

For a reader planning to coach clients, the better academy is the one that scores highest on marked work and an awarding body you can check. For a reader adding knowledge to an existing job, live hours and a timetable that fits count for more. So no academy wins for everyone. Collect six facts from two or three academies, score the evidence, weight it for your goal and break any tie with the method below. NNWA, which publishes this page and may be on your list, goes through the same test.

NNWA publishes the name and qualifications of everyone who writes and checks its material. You can see the full teaching team on the faculty page.

Six ascending columns in brass and forest green, suggesting a route with steps, with the NNWA wordmark in the corner.

This page scores the academy as an organisation. The ten criteria for choosing an online course test a single course, and the questions to ask a course counsellor own what to say on the call, so neither is repeated here. The sheet is what you fill in afterwards, and it sits at the shortlisting stage of enrolling in an online nutrition course. Outside facts below were read on each body's own page on 1 November 2026.

The six facts, and what counts as evidence

Score each fact 0, 1 or 2 for each academy. Give 2 if it is published where anyone can check it, 1 if the academy gave it in writing when you asked, and 0 if it was only spoken or not given at all. You are scoring how far you can verify the answer, not how impressive it sounds. Then multiply each score by the weight for your goal.

The scoring sheet: six facts, the evidence for each, and the weight by goal
Fact to collectEvidence to look forWeight: coaching clientsWeight: adding to a job
Awarding bodyLegal name, and the body's own list showing the academy and this course32
Live hoursA stated number, separate from recordings and from the qualification's total size23
AssessmentWho marks what, the pass standard and one sample brief31

Refund termsThe full written policy, readable before you pay22
OpennessWhat the academy states it does not allow, and what it leaves unpublished21

The sheet leaves out three things on purpose: fee, timetable and reviews. Fee comes after scoring, using the cost-per-hour comparison, because a low price on a weak score is no bargain. Timetable is a tie-breaker, covered below. Reviews stay off because, as NNWA's page on reading reviews admits of its own, providers choose what they show. A testimonial cannot be scored, however warm it is.

Three answers that remove an academy before any scoring

Some answers end the comparison without arithmetic. Remove any academy that promises a job, a salary or a hospital post. Remove any that cannot give the legal name of its awarding body, or whose claim the body's own list does not support. Remove any that will not send its refund terms before payment. The Central Consumer Protection Authority's coaching guidelines of November 2024, as the Press Information Bureau summarised them, bar false claims on faculty qualifications, fees, refund policies and job security. Whether they cover a given academy is a legal question, but they are a fair yardstick.

How do you check an awarding body yourself?

Go to the body's own website and to the regulator's list, never only to the academy's page. NCVET's Awarding Bodies page lists each body with a status and a jurisdiction: on 1 November 2026 it showed, for example, Medhavi Skill University with an agreement signed, for Sikkim. Then find the body's own list of partners and search for the academy's legal name. Confirm the award covers the course you want, because an academy can carry a body's name on some courses and its own certificate on others.

A 2 on this row needs both checks to pass without help from the academy. A 1 means the academy named the body in writing but you could not confirm it on the body's site. A logo strip with no legal name is a 0. If you are unsure how to read what you find, the guide to whether online nutrition courses are recognised explains what each kind of recognition means, and what it does not.

How should you weight the facts for your goal?

Weight them by what would hurt most if it turned out to be weak. A future coach is paid for judgement, so marked work carries a 3, and clients or employers may check the paper, so the awarding body carries a 3 as well. A reader adding nutrition to a teaching, fitness or HR job needs the teaching itself more than a credential, so live hours carry the 3 and assessment drops to 1. These weights are a starting point. Change any of them, but change them before you score, not after.

A third goal changes the sheet again. If you specifically need a university-awarded skill paper, for example because an employer asked for one, treat the awarding body as a pass or fail test and weight the rest as for a coach. If you want the live-teaching side above all, how live and recorded classes differ will help you set that weight. Write your weights at the top of the sheet, so that a persuasive counsellor cannot quietly move them later.

How do you score what an academy does not publish?

An unpublished fact scores 0 until the academy gives it in writing, and then it scores 1. That is not an accusation, since academies, NNWA included, leave some things unpublished for ordinary reasons. It simply records that you cannot check the fact yet. The openness row then adds a second test: does the academy state plainly what its qualification does not allow? Read this before you score it, because a page that lists its limits unprompted is giving you something a brochure rarely does.

A worked sheet, and the tie it produces

Here are two invented academies, scored by a reader who plans to coach clients. Academy A publishes more, while Academy B teaches and marks more but needs asking for details. Each cell shows the score and then the weighted points. They finish level, which is common once obvious weak options have gone, and it shows why a tie-break needs to be decided in advance.

How do you break a tie between two academies?

First try to raise every low score, because a tie often disappears once you ask. Write to both academies for the missing documents and rescore. Academy B may simply send its awarding body's listing, and its 1 becomes a 2. If the totals are still level, look at your two heaviest facts and pick the academy stronger on the one you can least fix later. You can check a teacher's credentials at any time, but you cannot add marking to a course after you have paid for it.

If those facts split too, ask each academy for one marked piece of learner work with personal details removed, and one recorded class. Judge how much the marker wrote and how the teacher handled a question. After that, timetable and language decide: the guide to two courses that both look good covers those final tie-breakers. If nothing separates them even then, take the lower total cost. The risk of choosing wrongly is by that point small.

NNWA under the same test, limits included

NNWA has not given itself a score, because that would be worth nothing. What follows is what its own pages state, so you can mark it yourself. Its affiliation page names Medhavi Skills University, Sikkim, for four flagship programmes and sends you to the university's partner directory. Its team page names mentors with their qualifications. Its refund policy is published in full. Those are checkable. They also say less than a reader might hope, as the right-hand column shows.

NNWA on the sheet, as its own pages stated on 1 November 2026, for you to score
FactWhat NNWA's pages stateWhat they leave open or limit
Awarding bodyMedhavi Skills University, Sikkim, for four flagship programmesThe Diploma in Health and Wellness Coaching and about seventy short courses carry NNWA's own certificate only
Live hoursLive classes in English and Hindi with recordings; the Diploma is a 600-hour qualificationThe Diploma's page prints no separate live-hours figure, so ask for one
AssessmentAssessments and mentor support are describedThe team page says no single assessment format is published for every course
TeachersMentors are named with qualifications and rolesAsk which of them will teach and mark your batch
Refund termsA full written policyFees are generally non-refundable once paid, and that is strict
OpennessStates its courses are not degrees and give no Registered Dietitian eligibilityIt offers no right to treat disease and promises no job

NNWA is the wrong choice on this sheet if you need a degree, the Registered Dietitian route or classroom teaching, and it may be a weak fit if you need a short course to carry a university award, since only the four flagship programmes, such as the Diploma in Nutrition, Dietetics and Public Health, do. If you are weighing it against a named academy, the comparison of NNWA and NFNA shows this approach applied, with the sources and dates beside each fact. The syllabus itself is a separate job, handled by comparing two syllabi side by side.

The reader this sheet suits

The sheet suits someone with two or three private academies at a similar level, close to paying and unsure which claims to believe. It suits a career changer choosing a first qualification, a working professional who needs to defend the choice to a family or employer, and a trainer or yoga teacher adding nutrition to current work. It also suits anyone who has already had a fast sales call, since filling in a sheet of written answers slows the decision to a safer speed.

Readers who should look elsewhere

Look elsewhere if you want hospital dietetics or the Registered Dietitian title. The Indian Dietetic Association sets its own eligibility for that examination, starting from university study, and the route to becoming a dietitian sets it out. Private academies are the wrong comparison there, whatever they score. Only doctors and qualified dietitians plan diets to treat disease. Look elsewhere too if your real choice is a university degree against a skill course, because this sheet compares like with like, and that decision turns on what each one opens.

The sheet in six steps

How to score two or three nutrition academies

  1. Set your weights

Write your goal in one line and your six weights at the top of the sheet, before you read anything further.

  2. Send one message

Ask every academy for the same six facts, in the same words, and request the reply by email.

  3. Check the awarding body

Look the body up on the regulator's list and on its own partner list, without using links from the academy.

  4. Apply the three removals

Cross out any academy that promises a job, cannot name its body or will not send its refund terms.

  5. Score and total

Give 0, 1 or 2 for each fact, multiply by the weights, and add each academy's column.

  6. Break any tie

Chase the low scores, ask for a marked sample and a recorded class, then decide on timetable and total cost.

What should you do next?

Send your six-fact message today and give the academies two working days to reply. If one academy leads clearly after the removals, read its refund terms once more and move on to the fee. If NNWA is on your list, the admissions page gives the route for your questions, and a counsellor's reply can go straight on the sheet. Keep the sheet and the emails together, since they record what you were told if anything changes later.

Do not buy anything yet if every academy on your list scores low, or if you cannot write your goal in one line. In the first case widen the list, because a sheet of weak options still has a winner and that winner may not deserve your money. In the second, a free or very short course will tell you more than any comparison, and it can be followed by this sheet once you know what you want the qualification to do. A short delay costs far less than a wrong enrolment.
