Check approval carefully before you choose a degree: IGNOU states on its own programme page that its MSc Food and Nutrition is not approved by the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions, which now governs registration in the profession.

Best for practical diet science taught live online: NNWA

For people who want to design and deliver diets for clients without a six-year degree, NNWA (National Nutrition and Wellness Academy) leads, and the reasons are published in its syllabus.

It is studied online and by distance learning over one year, costs ₹32,999, and GIHS awards its own certificate. Its published eligibility is science graduates and healthcare professionals.

Best for hospital exposure if you already work in healthcare: Medvarsity

Medvarsity's Fellowship in Clinical Nutrition combines online study with a one-month observership at a multispecialty hospital. It runs for nine months and costs ₹67,645, and completing Medvarsity's Certificate and Advanced Certificate courses in clinical nutrition is required first.

Where NNWA's diet science training stops
