02The difference

How the two courses really differ

Thyroid & Hormonal Nutrition answers the questions a person with a thyroid condition asks about food. It explains how the gland shapes metabolism, sets out the roles of iodine, selenium, zinc and iron, and gives practical Indian meal planning that supports energy, weight and wellbeing in an underactive thyroid. It also covers supportive eating for an overactive thyroid and for autoimmune conditions such as Hashimoto's. PCOS, insulin resistance and weight are grouped in one topic on hormonal imbalance, and the course ends by sorting thyroid diet facts from myths.

Women's Health & PCOS Nutrition makes PCOS its starting point and then keeps going through a woman's life. It links food choices to blood sugar, weight and hormonal symptoms, then covers nutrition for regular cycles and preconception, pregnancy and breastfeeding, and the menopausal transition with bone density and heart health. Iron and anaemia get their own topic. The thyroid is not among its topics, so a client whose main complaint is thyroid-related falls outside what it teaches.

Both courses teach food-based support that sits beside medical care. Thyroid medication is set by the treating doctor and diet does not stand in for it; PCOS is managed with a doctor or gynaecologist and no eating plan cures it. Your role after either course is to explain, to build practical eating plans, and to notice the symptoms that mean a referral. Both are pitched at the same level, so difficulty should not decide between them.

06In common

Where the two overlap

PCOS and insulin resistance are the overlap. Thyroid & Hormonal Nutrition covers how diet supports PCOS, insulin resistance and weight concerns in a single topic; Women's Health & PCOS Nutrition gives PCOS its opening topics. Iron turns up in both as well, as a thyroid-relevant nutrient in one and under anaemia in the other. Weight is a thread in each. Outside those points the courses do not repeat one another.

07Both

Taking both, and in which order

Taking both makes sense for a coach or nutritionist who supports clients with hypothyroidism and clients with PCOS, a combination Thyroid & Hormonal Nutrition names in describing who it is for. Which comes first is up to you: the level is the same, and nothing taught in one is needed for the other. Let the questions your clients ask most decide. If what you want is PCOS and thyroid in a single course instead, Hormone & Endocrine Nutrition is the NNWA course built that way.

08Verdict

The short answer

Take Thyroid & Hormonal Nutrition if the thyroid, yours or your clients', is the reason you are studying. Take Women's Health & PCOS Nutrition if you want PCOS in the setting of women's nutrition from menstruation to menopause. Neither replaces the other, because they share only the PCOS material.

NNWA courses are private skill courses. They prepare you to educate and support people, not to diagnose, treat or prescribe, and completing one does not confer the Registered Dietitian credential.
