02The difference

How the two courses really differ

Post-Pregnancy & Lactation Nutrition is a close study of a short period. It covers foods that support healing and energy after birth, how diet and hydration relate to breastfeeding and milk supply, replenishing iron, calcium and other nutrients drawn down in pregnancy, eating patterns that help with tiredness and low mood, and a gentle, unpressured view of postpartum weight. It also weighs Indian postpartum food customs against the evidence, respectfully. It is written for new mothers and for the family members, carers and coaches around them.

Women's Health & PCOS Nutrition covers far more ground and gives each stage less room. It opens with PCOS: what it is, the role of insulin resistance, and how food choices influence blood sugar, weight and hormonal symptoms. It then moves through menstrual and preconception nutrition, pregnancy and breastfeeding, the menopausal transition, bone density and heart health, and anaemia and other shortfalls that particularly affect women. Lactation appears here inside a wider topic, where the other course builds everything around the postpartum months.

Both are intermediate courses, so level will not decide it. Scope matters in both. PCOS is a medical condition managed with a doctor or gynaecologist, and no course or diet cures it; the nutrition taught here supports that care. Likewise a new mother with health concerns, or a baby with feeding problems, needs a doctor, dietitian or lactation consultant. Post-Pregnancy & Lactation Nutrition is general education for recovery and breastfeeding, not individual medical advice.

06In common

Where the two overlap

The two meet at breastfeeding and at iron. Women's Health & PCOS Nutrition has a topic on how nutrient needs change through pregnancy and breastfeeding and another on anaemia and common shortfalls; Post-Pregnancy & Lactation Nutrition covers lactation and the rebuilding of iron and calcium stores in more detail. Both teach when a woman should be referred to her doctor. A learner taking both would meet lactation and iron twice, first in outline and then in depth, and little else.

07Both

Taking both, and in which order

Taking both makes sense for someone building a practice around women's health. Take Women's Health & PCOS Nutrition first: it sets out the whole span, pregnancy included, and shows where the postpartum months sit within it. Follow it with Post-Pregnancy & Lactation Nutrition for the detail on recovery, milk supply, mood and customs that the broader course does not list. A new mother or family member studying for personal reasons has no need of both and can take the postpartum course alone.

08Verdict

The short answer

If the person you want to help has just had a baby, take Post-Pregnancy & Lactation Nutrition. If your interest is women's nutrition across PCOS, fertility, pregnancy and menopause, take Women's Health & PCOS Nutrition. Practitioners who want both should take the broader course first, and the comparison table shows the current fee and length of each.

NNWA courses are private skill courses. They prepare you to educate and support people, not to diagnose, treat or prescribe, and completing one does not confer the Registered Dietitian credential.

10Questions

Post-Pregnancy & Lactation Nutrition or Women's Health & PCOS Nutrition: common questions

Does Women's Health & PCOS Nutrition already cover postpartum nutrition?

In part. It has a topic on how nutrient needs change through pregnancy and breastfeeding. It does not list postpartum recovery, mood, postpartum weight or traditional postpartum foods, which are the body of Post-Pregnancy & Lactation Nutrition. If the weeks and months after birth are your main interest, the dedicated course goes further.

Which course helps with PCOS?

Women's Health & PCOS Nutrition. It explains PCOS, insulin resistance and how diet influences symptoms, and it is written for women managing PCOS as well as for practitioners. Post-Pregnancy & Lactation Nutrition does not cover PCOS. In either case PCOS stays a medical condition managed with a doctor or gynaecologist, with nutrition as support.

I am pregnant now. Which of the two should I choose?

It depends on what you want to prepare for. Post-Pregnancy & Lactation Nutrition lists anyone preparing for the postpartum months in its audience and deals with recovery and breastfeeding. Women's Health & PCOS Nutrition includes pregnancy nutrition among its topics. Both are general education, and neither replaces the advice of the doctor looking after your pregnancy.

Does either course make me a lactation consultant?

No. Post-Pregnancy & Lactation Nutrition says plainly that its certificate is neither a lactation-consultant licence nor a clinical dietetics qualification, and Women's Health & PCOS Nutrition keeps you within educational and lifestyle guidance. Both prepare you to support a woman with food and to refer her when something needs medical attention.
