NNWA publishes the name and qualifications of everyone who writes and checks its material. You can see the full teaching team on the faculty page.

The mistake is treating these lengths as a ladder where longer always wins. Each route does a different job. For which provider to choose, see the ranked list of clinical nutrition courses. This page answers only how long each takes and who can join, using each institution's own published rules.
| Route | Listed duration | Who can join |
|---|---|---|
| NNWA Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics | 3 months | No formal bar; some nutrition or healthcare background helps |
| NNWA Diploma in Nutrition, Dietetics and Public Health | 6 months, 600 hours | Class 12 in any stream |
| NNWA Post Graduation Diploma | 1 year | A degree in any subject |
| Lady Irwin College PG Diploma in Dietetics and Public Health Nutrition | 1 year | A named science or home science degree, per its prospectus |
| Manipal BSc in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics | 4 years | Class 12 with physics, chemistry, biology and English, per its page |
| SNDT, Sri Ramachandra or Amrita MSc | 2 years | A nutrition-related first degree; each sets its own rule |
| IGNOU MSc in Food and Nutrition | 24 to 48 months | Listed degrees, some with a nutrition certificate |
How long does a clinical nutrition course take?
It takes three months for a focused skill course, six months to a year for a diploma, two years for an MSc and three or four years for a bachelor's degree. Those are the listed lengths. The real question is the weekly load, because three months of evening classes feels very different from a full-time campus timetable.
A listed duration is sometimes a range. IGNOU's MSc gives a minimum of 24 and a maximum of 48 months, which is why you should always ask for hours as well as months. NNWA's Diploma states 600 hours. The guide to study hours a week shows how to turn such a number into a realistic calendar.
What is the eligibility for a clinical nutritionist course?
Eligibility depends on the level. NNWA's Diploma asks for Class 12 in any stream, and its Post Graduation Diploma for a degree in any subject. A university MSc usually asks for a nutrition-related degree, and rules vary. There is no single national rule, so always read the clause on the institution's own official page.
See how the rules differ. SNDT's MSc takes nutrition graduates and lists composite Home Science among degrees it does not accept, while allowing life science, biochemistry and physiology graduates with a set score. Sri Ramachandra asks for a clinical nutrition or related degree, or a postgraduate diploma in the field. Amrita names its accepted BSc degrees.
Which route can you enter from where you stand?
You can enter more routes than you may think, and the table below sorts them by starting point. Note that a hospital Registered Dietitian post is reached through a BSc or MSc and a recognised internship, and the dietitian course guide covers that goal. Every other goal has a faster door, shown here, and the guide for learners without a science background goes further if that is your worry.
Why do two courses of the same length differ so much?
They differ because months measure the calendar, not the teaching. Ask how much of the time is live, how much is self-study and how much is practical. NNWA's Post Graduation Diploma, for example, combines six months of live classes with six months of guided practical experience, so its one year contains two quite different kinds of work.
Can you study clinical nutrition while working full time?
Yes, and an online route is built for it. NNWA teaches live online in English and Hindi, keeps recordings and notes for life and offers mentor support 24x7, so a nurse on rotating shifts who misses a class can catch up without losing her place. A campus MSc, by contrast, is typically a full-time commitment during working hours.
Find your route in four steps
Write down your highest qualification
Use the exact subject printed on the marksheet. Entry rules turn on those words.
Count your free hours
Mark the hours in an ordinary week that are truly free. Be honest about night shifts and exams at home.
Read the entry clause
Open the official page of each course you are considering, and copy the rule into your notes.
Confirm in writing
If your degree is an unusual one, send it to admissions and keep the reply. It settles the matter.
The learners each length suits
Three months suits a working professional with a base to build on. Six months suits a beginner who wants a complete grounding and the certificate awarded with Medhavi Skills University. A year suits a graduate changing careers. Age is no barrier to any NNWA route, and the guide on age limits for nutrition courses answers that worry directly.
Before paying, read what the syllabus should cover and run the payback test for a clinical course. Both take less time than a single class, and they will tell you whether the length you have chosen matches the work you want to do.
The verdict and your next step
For most people reading this at night after a working day, NNWA is the practical answer: a route for every starting point, from three months to one year, taught live in English and Hindi, with interest-free EMI and placement support when you finish. Find your row above, open that course page and ask the admissions team to confirm your eligibility.
