Functional Nutrition vs Precision & Personalised Nutrition: Which Course?
Functional Nutrition and Precision & Personalised Nutrition are both advanced NNWA courses about fitting food advice to one person, but they start from different evidence. Functional Nutrition reasons from root causes, the gut and lifestyle. Precision & Personalised Nutrition reads genetic, blood and lifestyle data. Choose by whether your clients bring you persistent everyday complaints or test reports.

How the two courses really differ
Both courses reject the same thing: a standard diet sheet handed to everyone. Where they part is in how they decide what a particular person needs. Functional Nutrition teaches a way of thinking. You learn to look at a client's digestion, sleep, stress, movement and eating pattern as connected systems, to ask what sits underneath a persistent complaint, and to build a personalised, anti-inflammatory eating approach from that picture. The gut is given a central place in the reasoning.
Precision & Personalised Nutrition teaches a way of reading evidence about one individual. It begins with how genes influence nutrient needs and dietary response, then shows how genetic, blood and lifestyle inputs are interpreted and turned into everyday diet strategies. It explains why the same diet produces different results in different people, and it gives a full topic to what the science supports and where claims run ahead of the data. That part matters when a client arrives holding a report from a personalised-nutrition product and asks what it means.
Neither course is a medical qualification. Functional Nutrition frames the work as educational support for lifestyle and gut-related concerns, with medical issues referred to qualified professionals, so a client's doctor stays in charge of any condition. Precision & Personalised Nutrition is clear that ordering or performing clinical genetic testing is a regulated activity: you interpret and apply data within your scope and work beside qualified providers. Both say a grounding in nutrition helps, though the genetics and data concepts in Precision & Personalised Nutrition are taught from the ground up.

- You want to connect sleep, stress and movement with food in the guidance you already give as a coach or nutritionist.
- You would like to design anti-inflammatory eating approaches shaped around one person's triggers and goals.

Where the two overlap
Both are advanced courses built on the idea that advice should fit the individual, and both include a topic on the gut microbiome. Functional Nutrition places the gut at the centre of digestion, immunity and wellbeing; Precision & Personalised Nutrition looks at how microbiota shape metabolism and personalised choices. Each also ends in a personalised plan, so the planning stage will feel familiar the second time. The audiences overlap as well: nutritionists, dietitians, and fitness and wellness professionals are named by both courses.
Taking both, and in which order
Taking both is reasonable for a practitioner who wants personalisation to be the centre of their practice, because the two answer different questions. Functional Nutrition is the longer course and gives the wider frame, so it is the sensible first step: you learn to read a client's lifestyle and gut picture before adding data. Precision & Personalised Nutrition then adds the genetic and biochemical layer and a critical view of the claims around it. Someone whose work is already data-led, such as a health-tech founder, can go straight to the second.
The short answer
Take Functional Nutrition if your clients come with stubborn lifestyle or gut complaints and you want a systems way of reasoning about them. Take Precision & Personalised Nutrition if genetics, blood data and individual response are what you want to work with. Current fee and length are listed for both in the comparison table on this page.
NNWA courses are private skill courses. They prepare you to educate and support people, not to diagnose, treat or prescribe, and completing one does not confer the Registered Dietitian credential.

₹14,999Functional Nutrition or Precision & Personalised Nutrition: common questions
Do I need a science or genetics background for either course?
Both are advanced and both say some grounding in nutrition helps. Functional Nutrition builds on core nutrition concepts. Precision & Personalised Nutrition does not expect a genetics background: it starts from fundamentals and teaches the genetics and data concepts from the ground up. Mentor support is available in both.
Which course gives more weight to the gut microbiome?
Functional Nutrition. It has a topic on how the microbiome influences digestion, immunity and wellbeing, and one of its outcomes is supporting clients with gut-related concerns. Precision & Personalised Nutrition covers the microbiome more narrowly, as a factor that shapes metabolism and personalised nutrition choices.
Can I order genetic tests or advise on medical conditions after these courses?
No. Precision & Personalised Nutrition teaches you to interpret and apply personalised data within your scope; ordering or performing clinical genetic testing is a regulated activity, so you would work alongside qualified providers. Functional Nutrition is a wellness skill course that refers medical issues to qualified professionals. In both cases a client's condition stays with their doctor.
Is one of the two more advanced than the other?
No. Both are listed at advanced level, so neither is the easier option. They differ in subject and in length, with Functional Nutrition being the longer of the two. The comparison table gives the current figures for each.
