02The difference

How the two courses really differ

Corporate Wellness is a course about programmes. You learn how nutrition, movement and stress affect employee energy and productivity, how to plan a multi-week initiative that fits office and remote schedules, and how to run the sessions that make it up: workshops, lunch-and-learns, and step, hydration and healthy-eating challenges. The food content is specific to the working day, covering desk-based routines, shift patterns and canteen choices. The last topic is measurement: tracking engagement and wellbeing indicators and reporting them to employers and HR teams.

Certified Health & Wellness Coach is a course about a conversation. It teaches how habits form and change, how to listen, question and motivate, how to set goals with a client and keep them accountable, and how to structure sessions and professional boundaries. Its unit of work is the client relationship, sustained across nutrition, movement, sleep and stress. None of its topics concerns designing for a team, engaging an employer or reporting results.

The entry point differs as well. Corporate Wellness is pitched at beginner level and is the shorter course; it needs no prior wellness qualification and counts HR teams and managers among its learners. Certified Health & Wellness Coach is intermediate, though it teaches coaching from the ground up. Both stay educational. A workplace programme does not diagnose or treat an employee's medical condition, and an employee or client with a clinical need is pointed to a qualified professional such as their doctor.

05Decide

Which one to take

Choose Corporate Wellness if

  • You work in HR or a people team and have been asked to look after employee wellbeing.

  • You want to run group workshops, lunch-and-learns and step or hydration challenges.

06In common

Where the two overlap

Both courses deal with nutrition, movement, sleep and stress as everyday wellbeing, and both work through habits. Stress and sleep appear in each. Both also stop at the same boundary: education and support, with clinical needs signposted elsewhere. The shared material is thin beside the differences. A learner who takes both would hear the wellbeing basics twice, but programme design, workshops and reporting are found only in Corporate Wellness, and behaviour-change science and coaching conversations only in Certified Health & Wellness Coach.

07Both

Taking both, and in which order

The two fit together, because one covers groups and the other individuals, and Corporate Wellness itself lists wellness coaches who want to work with organisations among its learners. The order depends on where you stand. A practising coach or nutritionist should add Corporate Wellness second, as the route into organisations. An HR professional should start with Corporate Wellness, the beginner course, and take Certified Health & Wellness Coach afterwards only if coaching individual members of staff becomes part of the role.

08Verdict

The short answer

Choose by client. If an employer will be commissioning the work and the audience is a team, take Corporate Wellness. If the work is with a single person who wants to change their habits, take Certified Health & Wellness Coach. The comparison table shows the current fee and length of the workplace course and the coaching course.

NNWA courses are private skill courses. They prepare you to educate and support people, not to diagnose, treat or prescribe, and completing one does not confer the Registered Dietitian credential.

10Questions

Corporate Wellness or Certified Health & Wellness Coach: common questions

Which course is right for someone in HR?

Corporate Wellness. It is written for HR and people teams among others, starts from the foundations and needs no prior wellness qualification. It teaches programme design, workshops and reporting to the employer. Certified Health & Wellness Coach becomes relevant only if you expect to coach employees individually.

Does Corporate Wellness teach coaching skills?

In part. Its topic on stress, sleep and energy involves coaching habits that reduce burnout, and you learn to advise on desk-friendly habits. It does not teach behaviour-change science, client conversations or goal-setting and accountability as subjects; those belong to Certified Health & Wellness Coach.

Can a health coach run workplace sessions without the corporate course?

Certified Health & Wellness Coach does not prepare you for it. The course trains coaching conversations and session structure, and has no topic on designing a programme for a workplace, running group workshops or reporting to an employer. Corporate Wellness is where those are taught.

What happens when an employee or client has a medical problem?

The same thing in both courses: you signpost. Corporate Wellness prepares you to run educational, supportive programmes and to direct an employee with a clinical need to a qualified professional. Certified Health & Wellness Coach likewise keeps to behaviour change and refers clinical needs on. Medical dietary advice comes from the person's doctor or dietitian.
